-Developed after World War II in Japan, Sony founder Masaru Ibuka focused on producing items needed for everyday living due to cheap electricity. Sony’s first mass produced product was a wooden rice cooker. It failed due to inconsistent rice cooking. Rice would be either under- or over- cooked.
#3 How did Sony come up with its name?
-Sony is derived from the Latin word sonus, rooted in words such as ‘sonar’ and ‘sonic’. Another contributor to the name “Sony” is an old Japanese expression sonny boy, describing a young person with a free spirit. The new name captured the mood of the company as a group of young people with the drive for creating new electronic products.
